FAQs

Q. How do I start a college ministry in my church?

A. We're so glad you asked! Although there is really no one answer to this question, you might want to start with these things:
  • Start with what you have. If you already have a college Sunday school class, what can you do to make it better? Recruit a group of students who are already invested in your church to lead in the ministry and help develop vision for the ministry.
  • Evaluate your mission field. What colleges are near you? Are they commuter schools or residential campuses? Do many of your students attend school away and come home for semester breaks?
  • Develop relationships with High school seniors and incoming freshmen. As students graduate from the youth group help them to begin to look forward to what awaits in the college ministry, even if that is being a part of beginning a ministry.
  • Think small- dream big. Begin by investing in the group you have. Disciple students who can then disciple other students. Pray together for the college ministry.
  • Persevere. Don't be afraid to fail. Ministry to college students is ever changing and sometimes requires big adjustments. If at first you don't succeed.... Let students know you are committed to them not to the success of a program.
We would love to help you as you develop your ministry to collegiates. We'll be glad to consult with you and/or your college ministry leadership team. For more information contact us at collegiatechurchlife@gmail.
