Using Online Media in Your College Ministry

Part 1.

We know students spend a great deal of their time online.  So how do we make the most of this medium to connect with them?  Here are a few ideas from Blake Arrington, College Minister at Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler (Journey College Ministry).

"We use Instagram for posting pictures of our students, but then occasionally throw in an ad for an event. In order to create the ad, we spend MAYBE 5 minutes in the App called PicLab on iOS. It makes PROFESSIONAL looking ads using pictures of our choice and cool fonts and it’s quick and easy to send out an ad that is very effective. One key is that our instagram is not ONLY ads, it is tagged with students doing their thing during the week, on campus or whatever."

"One key to social media that has come to my attention, is that you need to post regularly on Facebook, to be present in more feeds. So we are exploring using Hootsuite to auto post for us. That is something we can spend a few hours a month doing, instead of robbing us of 15 minutes twice a day 2 for three times a week. Engaging students with scripture, quotes from faithful christian leaders, devos and more."

Our thanks to Blake for sharing!  We'll here from another college ministry next week.
