Summer Reads for College Ministry

Summer has begun and maybe you've got a novel or two on your reading list for the beach, but what will you add to your list to prepare you for the next season of ministry?  We've got a few suggestions we'll share along the way this summer.  Here are 3 for starters:
  • The Fuel and the Flame by Steve Shadrach. It's been around a while, but still one of the best books about college ministry. Steve Shadrach gets to both the why and the how.  What are the essentials for discipling college students? A great read to re-focus and energize your ministry.
  • Do More Better by Tim Challies. Chris Millar at University Heights Baptist Church in Huntsville says, "This quick little read has rapidly reduced my stress and helped me to become more productive for the glory of God. It works through three different tools (Todoist, a task management tool, Evernote, a note taking tool, and iCal) that we need for organizing our lives. It was an incredibly helpful book and has helped me not feel overwhelmed all the time with undefined tasks and projects floating around in my head."
  • Strengthening the Soul of Your Leadership by Ruth Haley Barton. Seeking God in the Crucible of Ministry. A great description for what most of us must do. This book is a great way to reconnect with God and rediscover your source of strength for life in ministry. If you are looking to refresh your spiritual life, this would be a great place to start.

What other books would you recommend? For personal spiritual renewal?  Leadership?  Sharpening ministry skills?   We'd love to hear about it and share it in an upcoming issue.  Email your recommendations toginger.bowman@texasbaptists.org.
