Take advantage of this great opportunity! Students are headed home for the semester break. While they are home, make a special effort to reconnect with them and encourage them in their spiritual walk. Many students will have found a church home in their college community, but many will still be more connected to their home church than where they are attending school. For some, the pressures of academics, campus life and full schedules may have meant they didn't purse their faith at all this semester. Use the semester break to encourage students and challenge them to find a place to serve when they return to school.
If you have students who are still looking to connect with a church or a BSM at their local campus, find a list of BSM's and local churchesat http://texasfreshmen.com/.
- Host a fellowship event in someone's home and invite returning students and regular attenders. Be sure to invite some other adult leaders that have invested in their lives previously. Provide activities that encourage conversation, group games, cookie decorating, etc.
- Plan a short mission trip or activity that students can sign up for on short notice. Encourage leaders in the group to invite those they know of that are coming home for the break to join in. Common experiences on mission help build relational bonds.
- Find opportunities to visit one on one or in small groups with returning students to hear about their semester and encourage them to continue in their walk with Christ. This may be the push they need to restart their spiritual walk when they get back to campus.
