(Re)Starting the Semester

January is a great time to start new things, or to restart some things.  Often after a semester of ministry, energies wane, and priorities gradually shift.  The start of a new semester is a great time to revisit priorities and refresh ministries.

Here are a few ideas to make a fresh start:
  • Re-mind student leaders of what is most important.  It's easy to lose focus over the course of a semester, and semester break.  Gather your student leaders to reconnect with one another and remind them of the priorities of ministry.  Paul reminds the church in I Corinthians 15:3-4:  "For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures."  What is your primary purpose together?  How will you be about that purpose this year?
  • Re-energize your ministry opportunities by doing a fresh publicity campaign.  The start of a new semester is a great time for new students to jump in and try new things.  Share Bible study and ministry opportunities in a fresh way to invite new students to participate.
  • Re-connect with contacts that have grown cold. The season of new things is a great time to reconnect with students you haven't seen in a while.  Have student leaders help in making those contacts. Create some fellowship opportunities to invite students back into the group and facilitate relationship building.
