Connecting with Incoming Freshmen

Displaying UNT- church progressive dinner_2.jpgThis year's incoming freshmen are already preparing to come to campus.  Attending orientations, buying supplies for their new living quarters and planning for those first weeks of college life.  How will your church connect with them?  Here are a few ideas.

Is Your Church on the List?
TexasFreshmen.com is specifically designed to help incoming freshmen connect with the Baptist Student Ministry (BSM) and local churches at the campus where they will attend school.  To help students find a church, we have compiled a list of churches by closest campus.Click here to view the list.  If you can't find your church, or you need to update information, complete the 2015 TX Church College Ministry Survey and we will add it to the list.

Connect or Reconnect with the local BSM
Now would be a great time to visit with your local BSM Director(s).  Get to know them and find out how you could partner together to reach out to the campus this fall.  Many BSM's partner with local churches to do welcome events on their campuses. Ask how your church could best connect with new freshmen. What new ministry opportunities might arise from working together? Click here to Find a BSM.

Offer to Serve as Volunteers
Those first weeks of school are hectic for student life staff on campuses.  Contact the local campus student life/ student activities office to see if there are some ways that church members could serve as volunteers for welcome week activities. Some campuses may not be open to outside volunteers, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Be sure to let them know that your church is available to serve the campus. *Remember, if you do get the opportunity, be sure to follow the rules carefully to build trust that can open doors to future opportunities.
