Coming soon to a campus near you...

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” Matthew 9:36-38 ESV.
In the next few weeks 1.4 million college students will return to college campuses across the state of Texas. Many will come to campus for the first time. There will be new classes, new friendships, and new challenges. And, there will be new opportunities for churches and campus ministries to engage them with the gospel.  The first few weeks on campus are a crucial time for students as they explore new opportunities and decide where they will spend their time and energy in the coming school year.
Seize the moment.  Make the most of every opportunity you have with students in these first few weeks.  So many things compete for their attention, socially and academically. Be clear in what you are inviting them to be a part of and how they can get involved.
Care deeply.  It's easy for students to just feel like a number at the start of school.  Let them know that you genuinely care about them and that your care for them is not conditional upon their involvement.  Jesus had compassion on the multitudes.
Pray.  Pray for the students coming to your local campuses this fall.  Ask the Lord of the Harvest for more workers in your church who will have hearts of compassion for these students. Pray that God will grant His servants favor with leaders and students on local campuses so that more students can be engaged and discipled this year as followers of Jesus.
